I received the following letter from a good friend, Julian McCracken of the 'Phoenixville Area Learning Center.' The PALC provides early childhood educational opportunities for families that could otherwise not afford it. Our Men2Serve group visited PALC on a couple of occasions. We huffed and puffed as we moved heavy things, cleaned out rooms and did some lawn care. I'm big on the idea that faith is not simply a noun. It's far bigger. Faith is also a verb, which may explain why we are told that Jesus 'saw' people's faith.
The Men2Serve group affords many the opportunity to put into practice what they've heard on other Sunday mornings. Still others participate out of humanitarian concerns and, as we serve side by side, meaningful relationships form. A number of men bring their sons, providing a spiritually and/or civically formative experience in ways that defy explanation.
Our next Men2Serve is open to men and women! We will gather at 9:30 am on Sunday August 11th at the Bookworm building in Phoenixville for refreshments and a brief reflection, before heading out to serve 'Ann's Heart' (www.annsheart.org) in Phoenixville. Interested in helping out? Just email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and let me know!
We'd love to have you....especially those of you who want worship to take a more gritty, practical form once in a while, and/or those of you who simply want to express the internal yearning you feel to renew/restore this wonderful but broken world in which we live.
All the best,
