September 2016 Ministry Update
Dear Friends,
Every once in a while I have what I call a 'weird day.' It's one of those days
when, from the moment you wake up, things just seem a few degrees out
of plum. Sometimes in humorous ways. Here's but one example....
While recently serving as hospital chaplain, I entered the room of a patient who sat up and was wide awake. Inside was a middle aged man to whom I introduced myself.
Patient: Hello Chaplain. I am a follower of Jesus.
Me. Oh…..Wonderful.
(Light conversation ensues)
Me: Would you like prayer?
Patient: No.
Me: Would you like a bible?
Patient: No. [long, awkward pause] Chaplain, I do, however, have a question for you.
Me: OK….
Patient: When Jesus says 'where two or more are gathered' does he mean that when people gather to pray together, its more powerful than if they are praying at the same time but in different locales? I mean, if people were praying for me who were not gathered together, like one in King of Prussia and another in Downingtown, it would be just as powerful, right?'
Me: …….Um.... [thinking to myself: Am not sure seminary prepared me for this?!]
Nevertheless, I am so grateful to have the opportunity to, however clumsily (and hilariously), to administer the grace of Christ to those that God loves, no matter how weird!
Gratefully,
Greg Porter
